On to the questions!

1. What’s your favorite childhood snack that you still eat as an adult?
I don’t know…I sometimes eat those little fruit snacks that come in little baggies…

2. What food will you not eat the low fat version of? Cheese…it’s the one major thing I am picky about…as a kid, I hated any kind but Velveeta, BUT I have grown from that and I will eat Kraft, Borden, etc., even some store brands, but I can’t stand the low fat and fat free kinds….Surprisingly I have ate soy cheese before and I liked it, although it’s pretty expensive and I prefer the real thing…

3. What’s your favorite way to cool off during the summer? Stay somewhere where there’s a good A.C. 😉

4. What’s your favorite summer read? I’m not a big Re-reader of books so there’s not a specific book I read every summer; As for genres, I read all types so there’s not even a specific kind of them. I don’t like to read too many of the same type of book in a row usually so I am just completely random all the time!

5. What are you doing to stay cool in this awful heat? I use my A.C. ALOT and pray that it can keep up with the heat!

On to the questions!

1. Would you grow your hair out to donate it? One of my nieces actually did this and respect those that do….I once had my hair past my butt when I was about 5 years old but since then, once it gets about midway down my butt, I just HAVE to get it trimmed AND thinned because I have very THICK naturally curly hair and it gets very heavy and starts breaking ponytail holders otherwise…Not to mention, it is a headache to brush through it the longer it gets so I’m sorry but I would have to pass. My niece that did this has thick hair like me but without as much of the natural curl so I have no idea how she dealt with it….I know it was gorgeous when it got really long, I always thought it looked like a horse’s mane. 🙂

2. What song makes you think of summer? “California Girls” by Katy Perry just popped into my head….so did “Thong Song” by Sisquo, LOL…I guess cause I was thinking of the beach. Does anyone else remember that song? Speaking of thongs, thank you whoever decided to share the name “Thong” with not only underwear but the flip flops that go through the toe! That has ALWAYS bothered me!

3. Are you a flip flops or sandals kind of person? I LOVE flip flops or “thongs” LOL…I do love sandals but I prefer the old fashioned platform ones, not heel but just wide platform base with buckles….which they don’t seem to make anymore 😦 I need to create my own shoe line…….

4. Favorite summer treat (ie ice cream, snow cones, etc)? I’m going to say snow cones but only because I live hours away from where they sell Slurpees at a 7/11 😦 And don’t try to tell me Slushees and Icees are the same…they are NOT! A Slurpee was created by a goddess, I tell you! And we need a 7/11 in my city so I can enjoy one more often!…..But enough venting for now…

5. Do you do something special for the father of your children? Seeing as I have yet to bear children, this question is not applicable BUT when I have kids, I would LOVE to do creative stuff like hand prints on the t-shirt and special handmade cards, etc. I have always thought those kind of gifts are so much more special than just buying a tie or something….

{August 11, 2011}   On the road again

I just love getting behind the wheel of a car, getting comfy in the seat, starting the engine, and taking off for a nice long drive. Of course, you fasten the seat belt, too. If I am driving, then a road trip is so much fun for me. There’s just this peace I get as I sit back in the seat and get into the rhythm of the road. It’s very cathartic for me and healing…..Is this strange?

As you are reading this post, I am driving on a 4 hour trip, maybe a little more, to go visit some family. It’s just me and my mom and I am either having a conversation with her or she is reading a magazine while I am listening to the radio on low and enjoying the peace. Actually, we can add a third option because if she is reading, she probably has fallen asleep. Doesn’t matter to me which of the three SHE is doing because I am currently doing something that relieves stress for me and makes me feel new for awhile. Road trips give me excitement for days…..just the thought of being able to drive for a long period with no guilt. I would just drive all over everyday but then it would mean more gas fill ups for the car, which we all know costs tons of money nowadays. If only I could afford one of the electrical cars…but then that would be wasting electricity just so I could enjoy driving, right?

Oh well….for now I am on the road again, literally, enjoying a nice, quiet drive…..until I hit the big city and begin to deal with traffic I rarely experience anymore. But the traffic is fine and I can live with it because I love the place I am heading to. The place where I was born and raised. There’s just something about this city that brings back good memories for me and makes me forget the stress for awhile…..then in a few days, I will again partake of the drive back home, which I will love but saying goodbye again to family I will NOT love.

I hope everyone else is enjoying their Thursday…for now, I will focus on my driving! 🙂

*P.S. This post was done in my house and scheduled before the drive took place….no crazy woman was driving on the road and blogging!*

Well…This was the first ever 5QF that I had to really research and figure out what one of the questions meant….after having no luck googling “The Big V”, me and my husband were thinking what it could mean and he figured out what it was….V is for V-a-s-e-c-t-o-m-y…..I think I spelled that right..I’m not sure who calls it the Big V cause that was very confusing for me….but thanks for putting my brain to work hard!

Only one more 5QF this month after this one…summer seems to just be speeding by!

This 5 Question Friday was brought to you by:

On to the questions!

1. If your husband had the BIG V and you got pregnant what would your first reaction be? For the dudes, what would your first reaction be if your wife told you she was pregnant after the Big V? I don’t want my husband to get a vasectomy anytime in the foreseeable future, at least at this time in our lives, because we have no kids yet and I want a big family. IF somewhere down the line my husband had one and I became pregnant afterwards…I would be surprised but from hearing stories and watching the show “I didn’t know I was pregnant”, I would know that it IS possible. It’s rare for it to happen but it CAN so I wouldn’t be thinking it was magic or anything….and I don’t think my husband would think I had cheated because he also knows it IS possible. Obviously, if we already had our hands full with kids, it would be a stressful situation, but from my standpoint at least at THIS moment, I would take it as something that was meant to be. I believe everything happens for a reason and I would accept the new baby into our lives and know that our families would be just as accepting, so it wouldn’t be that big of a deal to me.

2. Best memory about this summer so far. So far, it has been our anniversary…we didn’t do anything HUGE but we really spent quality time together talking and it was fun 🙂

3. How often do you change your sheets? Your kids sheets? Obviously N/A for the kid’s sheets…..I don’t have an exact time schedule for the sheets….I guess I really should, though…Does anyone know how often you should? I mean, I know if they are dirty, you should…..and clean freaks probably change them out weekly or less, but I probably do every month or couple months…is that bad? 😦 I feel like people are going to be thinking I’m gross now…..but hey, I’m being honest….

4. Having just gone through TSA, would you rather have a full-body scan or a pat-down? idk….These new scans kind of bother me because it’s like they now have x-ray vision where they can see you naked and it feels sort of violating to me…..I realize the necessity but I also feel like there are some weird perverts out there that may get off on that sort of thing…..and that bothers me…..especially for kids they are scanning…..But pat downs aren’t so fun either…..Can I just have the old fashioned x-ray scan?

5. Since it is fair time…what’s your favorite fair (county or state) memory? My favorite fair memory is performing at the Dallas State Fair back in 2005 and getting to also walk around and go shopping…it was so much fun!

It’s that time again!

The time where I answer five completely random questions and you can choose to do the same either through answering in the comments or on your own blog!

I can’t believe June is almost over, time sure does fly!

This 5 Question Friday was brought to you by:

On to the questions!

1. What is your current favorite tv show? I’m never any good at narrowing favorites down to just ONE thing but I’m just going to go with my favorite at the moment(meaning the first one that comes to mind)-So you think you can dance?
I just LOVE this show! I love seeing all the different styles of dance, the great group numbers and duets, the special guest dancers, the cool costumes…it’s just an awesome show!
2. What’s the worst haircut you ever got? When I was a little kid, I had long hair(as in past my butt) and I loved it BUT I wasn’t too keen on the daily brushing and maintenance of it. Because I had naturally curly hair, my hair has always tangled so easily and it got to be a major pain on my mom and Nanny when they would have to brush all the tangles out. Then, I started getting migraines around the age of 6 and my mom thought the weight of my hair could have some reasoning behind it. I’ve always had really thick hair and if I don’t get it thinned every few months, I will break hair clips and ponytail holders easy!
So….I gave in to having my hair cut short and I hated it. It became very kinky curly as it was lighter and looked very much like an afro. It was a major target for people to make fun of and I just dreaded it. Eventually, I got my mom to let me grow it out and I don’t EVER plan on having it short again. It’s just NOT for me!
3. What was something that you did as a child that you thought you were so cool for doing? I don’t know…the first thing that really pops into my head is probably when I used to put on these little talent shows. It was during a time when my nieces from Indiana were living with us and I always thought that was cool. I also liked to record songs directly from the radio and then do my own little commentary and radio shows in between the songs on the cassette tapes. I still have some of those tapes and it’s interesting hearing me talk on them…and maybe a little embarrassing too.
4. Do you have any GREAT frugal family fun tips? Not really. There’s a lot of things you can do that are completely free and some that you wouldn’t expect. The internet can be a great resource for coupons and specials as well as alerting you to special events where places are half price or even free for the day. I actually printed off loads of coupons for my own honeymoon this way!
5. Would you drive across country if you had the money to fly? It depends. I’ve never driven across country and I LOVE to drive so it would be fun someday to do a cross country road trip!
BUT if you have a limited time to travel, then flying IS quicker. If you have all the time you want to get where you’re going, then yes, I pick driving. 🙂
How would YOU answer these questions? I’m really curious to see if anyone has some super secret frugal tips and I would love to hear about them!
Have a fun weekend!

Summer may not have officially started yet, but here in Texas where I live, it sure feels like it has! Right now, it is currently 100 Degrees with a feels like temp. of 103, yuck! And that’s probably not the hottest it will be today because our hottest temperature has been coming between 5-6 in the evening.

If you are also somewhere where it’s THAT hot, make sure to keep hydrated with plenty of liquids and protect yourself from that sun! As for me, I am staying indoors with the Air conditioner doing another 5 question Friday!

This 5 Question Friday was brought to you by:

On to the questions!

1. What is your favorite summer time activity? I am not now nor have ever been an outdoorsy person and as soon as the temps. start to rise outside, I tend to hibernate indoors all the more. So in actuality, being inside with the AC reading is my fav. activity BUT if I had to pick an outdoors one, I would say hanging with friends and/or family somewhere in the shade or swimming(though I don’t know how)

2. Do you have one laundry soap you stick to, or do you buy whatever’s on sale? We don’t have a hook-up for a washer/dryer in our apt. so it’s either the apt. washeteria area or borrowing a family’s…..currently, we wash and dry our clothes at my parent’s because they are trying to save us the money it would cost to pay the machines we have here, therefore I really don’t have a preference for soap atm

3. What is your favorite dinner to make in the summer? I don’t think I have one….Pasta is my fav. meal year round but if I am eating outdoors where it’s hot, I would probably prefer sandwiches or something lighter….more fruits cause they’re refreshing

4. Do you have any talents? I love to sing…I think I’m fairly good at it so I guess that’s a talent. I would like to think I have a talent for writing sometimes and also that I can act decently. I can impersonate a baby’s cry as an unusual talent. Oh…and I don’t know if it’s really a talent, but I’ve always been able to do that ballet move where you turn both feet outwards and slowly squat down and back up…I know the name of it but for the life of me can’t recall it at the moment! I was born with my right hip extended a little out so it makes it really easy for me.

5. If you could instantly be an expert in something, what would it be? Why? It would be awesome if I could be an expert in what men are thinking. I’m sure every woman would love that and every man would love to know what women are thinking! It would also be nice to be an expert in knowing how to make money, LOL I like to dream big, what can I say?
Well, there you have them, 5 questions and my 5 incredible or cheesy answers…take your pick! As always, feel free to answer them in the comments or your own blog! OR feel free to ask me a question of your very own that you would like me to answer! If you do, I might turn them into a post or add it in next week’s 5qf with a link to who asked it!
(Sending a special thanks to Mirth and Motivation for bestowing upon me the honor of not 1, not 2, BUT 3 awesome awards that I will be sharing later on in the week with others! Be sure to check her blog out if you never have! It’s so awesome!)

{June 7, 2011}   The heat is my enemy!

If there’s one thing I absolutely detest about summer in Texas, it’s the heat! Yesterday, I was out headed to a doctor’s check-up around 10 in the morning and I groaned in protest as I drove by a bank that broadcasted the current temp. as 98 degrees. UGH! It’s not even the hottest days yet either!

It doesn’t help that I have inherited this extra skin on me that acts as insulation. While some people rejoice as the temperature gets warmer, I walk around feeling like I’m trapped in a desert. It’s no wonder I prefer staying indoors with an AC a much as possible in the summer time. I hibernate just like a bear….a confused bear that mistook summer for winter, I suppose.

Is it only me that feels this way though? Am I the only one who feels that the increasing heat just sucks all the energy out of you and makes you feel like a zombie in search of brains…I mean, water?

Someone should really invent an invisible climate controlled bubble that you can wear around you where you can be comfortable while outside the bubble, the temperature remains the same. It would probably have an atrocious price tag, though….and I would be scraping together pennies to be able to afford it. Anything to be out and about in the Texas heat without having to suffer through it! Lord help me make it through this heat!

Worth the trouble
