TheRealSharon's Blog

I’m feeling deja vu and not just because I feel I have used this title before….I feel it because I am the same as last week, BUT I did lose a pound last week so it’s just one week of being stuck so far.  It will be nice when this “stuck” hump is finished and I can start losing consistently again. 😦

Oh well…..This weight loss can get stuck as much as it wants, but I refuse to give up!

Nothing good today on the weight loss front. It’s that evil time right now that women go through every month(sorry guys who may be reading this) so no weight loss this week. Hoping that by the end of the week, my unwanted visitor will be long gone and a pound or two will have disappeared as well!

The good news, unrelated to weight loss, is that I’m getting a new Kindle Fire HD very soon. I have been saving up Amazon cards through doing surveys and some from my husband as well since mid December and I was finally able to order one over the weekend. It was supposed to arrive Thursday but according to the tracking, it’s in my town right now….so I might get it tonight or at least tomorrow. So excited that I just had to share!

New measurements for this month will be posted next week and crossing my fingers that they will be great!

Now….for Day 6 of my 30 Day Reading Challenge!

readingchallDay 6-A book that makes you sad

“Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas” by James Patterson. This was actually the first ever book I read by James Patterson and though I have read others since, definitely my favorite. This book pulled at my heart strings and definitely brought tears to my eyes, in both good and heartbreaking ways. It’s a very beautiful, touching story and I WOULD read it again, even though it does make me sad. The reason I chose this book was for more than the story being sad, though. When I think of this book, it brings back the memories surrounding the time I first read it. When I first read this book, it was based on a recommendation from a guy I was in a long distance relationship with. There were beautiful lines from this book that he used to tell me that I thought were the most romantic lines ever. Once I read the book, I learned where the lines were from and the sadness surrounding them. Later in our relationship, he cheated on me with other people and the lines took on a different connotation to me. Instead of romance and sweetness, there was a sense of lies, betrayal and feeling very used that replaced them. So when I think of this book, I think of those lines and I think of the past and the memories and I feel sad. Not sad for me because I have grown up, moved on and I am happy. I feel sad for the memory of young love destroyed and how those same memories are SO like the sadness expressed by this book.

Day 4-Favorite Book of your Favorite Series

Well, yesterday, I picked my favorite series as the “Anita Blake, Vampire Slayer” series by Laurell K. Hamilton so that means today, I will be picking my favorite book out of this series. The minute I got about a quarter in to the book, “Obsidian Butterfly”, I already knew it was going to be a favorite and none of the books since have been as GREAT as that one for me. This was #9 in the series and I love it so much because it’s full of action and suspense and there’s just so MUCH happening. It also has a lot of one of my favorite characters, Edward, in it. With Book #21 in the series coming in June, I believe, no other book since #9 has been as full of action and excitement for me the way that one has. A part of me holds out hope that another one will come along and be just as exciting. I still continue to LOVE the series, but for now, #9 will remain my favorite.

As always, you may answer these questions in your own post or in the comments section!

This 5 Question Friday was brought to you by:

On to the questions!

*The blog I got this from is NOT doing a 5QF this week so I took the liberty of finding a random OLD 5QF that was done way before I started doing them. These are the questions from the May 7th, 2010 post.*

1. What is your next home improvement goal? Just cleaning in general, I guess…I can’t really do anything major to my house cause it’s an apartment

2. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be? No religious texts (ie Bible, Quran, Torah, etc, etc)… I’m sorry but I refuse to answer this…the idea of only reading ONE book for the rest of my life is horrific, I can’t even choose! I would go insane! A world where this was the reality is NOT one I could live in!

3. What is on top of your refrigerator? Bread, some chips that have been there for awhile(hint to my hubby!) and croutons…not sure what else…too lazy to go look!

4. What are your favorite or most used phone apps? I don’t use too many since I got my Kindle….I prefer to do most things on it and leave my phone for texting and talking but I do use my WordPress app a lot to check if there are any comments 🙂

5. What’s the one thing you hate most about your spouses job? I don’t really hate anything about it….I just wish he would get busy working more so he could bring in some more dough! LOL I swear I’m not trying to pick on him…it’s just the questions that are being asked!

*30 Day Reading Challenge*

readingchallDay 3-My Favorite Series

I’m going to go with the first one that popped into my head when I saw today’s prompt. The “Anita Blake, Vampire Slayer” Series by Laurell K. Hamilton. I have many favorites, though, but I especially love the fact that this series keeps going and going, like the Energizer bunny. LOL AND I got into it when over a dozen were already out so I didn’t have to wait too long for a lot of them either. My niece/best friend Rebekah got me into this series when she talked me into reading the first book and then loaned me the other ones. I am SO glad she did! Tomorrow will be my fav. book of THIS series so see you then if you want to find out which one I pick and why! 🙂

readingchallDay 2-A book you’ve read more than three times

I rarely reread books because I have so many unread books that it’s hard for me to justify it, but there was a book my Nanny had at her house that I remember reading over and over when I would come to visit as a kid. I remember it being a lot longer but the book was only about 62 pages. Interesting how perspective changes. The book was called, “Dearest Debbie” and it’s been well over two decades since I read it last. The main thing I remember about it was an adopted girl who died and it was sad but something about it interested me enough to want to read it more than once. I didn’t even remember the author but through Goodreads, I see that it was by Dale Evans Rogers. Not sure if my Nanny still has it or she gave it to me and it could be somewhere at my parents but if I find it again, I would definitely reread to see what it’s like now that I’m so much older. Have YOU read this book? If so, what did you think? AND what’s a book that YOU’VE read more than three times?

To play along, just answer the following three (3) questions… • What are you currently reading? • What did you recently finish reading? • What do you think you’ll read next? What are you currently reading? “Bloodsuckers:The Vampire Archives, Volume 1” by Various Authors, Edited by Otto Penzler

What did you recently finish reading?  “Being a Green Mother” (Book 5 of Incarnations of Immortality) by Piers Anthony

“Wielding a Red Sword”(Book 4 of Incarnations of Immortality) by Piers Anthony

What do you think you’ll read next? I just got a whole lot of books from last week’s Library Book Sale, so…I’m not really sure! I will just have to see what book calls me next!

Day One of the 30 Day Reading Challenge!

Today is The Best Book you’ve read THIS year

This is a really hard one, because I’ve read some really great books this year! I think I will have to maybe offer 2 of the best….The BEST book I have read this year that was NOT on my To Read List and I had no prior intention of ever picking up was “Hiding in Sunshine” by the Father/Daughter Duo John and Caitlin Stuart. If I hadn’t got it from Influenster for free, I would have probably NEVER picked it up to read because the cover was so plain and uninteresting to me and it just didn’t grab my attention. This book was definitely proof that you can’t judge a book by its cover! And for the Best book this year that WAS on my list because it was so highly recommended by a friend…”Blasphemy” by Douglas Preston. The book cover and premise would have drawn me in had I even seen it before but because of the recommendation, I found out about it a lot sooner and wanted to read it. This book made me interested in more of his books as well!

I was planning on doing a non-reading related post today but then I stumbled onto this 30 Day Reading Challenge that sounded like a lot of fun. The title is misleading, though. You do NOT read a book a day, you simply answer questions about books you have already read, one question a day. Unless they are Children’s books or books under 100 pages, not even I could consistently read a book a day for 30 days….unless I was bed ridden, maybe, but probably not even then if it was a really big book. I think some people get this misconception from me that I must have a ton of free time because I read so much. Well, first of all, there ARE people that read more than me, believe it or not! Second of all, I actually only read 2-3 hours at the MOST per day. Some days I don’t read at all. Rare, but honest. The reason I seem to read so much is because 1) I’m a fast reader and 2)I try to carry a book with me to utilize my free time best. Doctor’s appts., waiting in long lines, waiting on my mom when I take her to run errands, etc. and you’ll find me reading while I wait. I see people all the time sitting idle or just wasting time playing on their phones. Insert a book there instead and it’s surprising how much more time you have to read! 🙂

readingchallI found this through Facebook and anyone else is welcome to do it however they wish!

I know May has 31 days but it’s too late to do this for April, so I will just do it for the first 30 days of May and then on the 31st, I will comment on how much fun I had doing so! For the days that I already have things planned such as Spotlight Sunday, my Weight Loss updates on Monday, WWW Wednesday and 5QFriday, I will answer these questions at the bottom of those posts. On the other days, my posts will be just answering the daily question unless I get inspiration and want to post about other topics as well! As I said, anyone else can do this too or post THEIR answers each day in the comments if you like! I would love to hear your answers as well. I can already see some days answers will be easier than others!

{January 1, 2013}   New Year, New Goals

May this year bring you all happiness, hope, love….everything you need! 🙂

If you haven’t read my posts a lot in the past, you may not know about my dislike for the word, “Resolution”. I guess it’s because I’ve heard people all my life make these New Years Resolutions and then hardly any of them ever keep them. After awhile, I have just come to equate resolutions with silly promises people make because everyone else is making them but you really have no plans to see them to fruition. Maybe I’m being crazy but this just gives me a sort of phobia about using the word. Therefore, I prefer to call them goals for the year. The word “Goal” holds more meaning for me and part of that is because I have followed through with “goals” before and met them.

My first goal for 2013 is to blog at least ONCE a day, everyday. I did this in 2011 so I KNOW this is possible for me to do. I want to get back into a regular routine with blogging AND I also have family and friends that miss my daily blogging. For some of them, I think it makes me seem closer even when I’m far away. It’s almost like a diary of my life cause my blog is definitely personal but I sometimes pop in a short story or poem…you never know! 😉

My second goal is something I’ve been working on since July 20th and that is to continue with my weight loss. I would like to see myself get down to at least 250 pounds this year so once I hit my below 300 goal, I will change my next goal to be losing 50 pounds in 2013. I feel like I can possibly lose even more but at some point, I KNOW this plateau is coming where I will get stuck so I want to be realistic but still push myself.

My third goal involves reading and I have participated in a challenge in both 2011 AND 2012 and completed them. Well, in 2012, I completed my goal of 100 months ago so I reamped it to 150 and sadly, I am going to fall short of that change by about 5 books. 😦 BUT that’s OK cause I met my original goal and got darn close to the second one! Which is why my reading challenge goal for 2013 will be 150 books! Do you think I can do it? You can follow my progress on Goodreads! 🙂

AND my fourth and final goal IS a totally new to me and my blog BUT should be fun and easy. I want to watch 50 movies I’ve never seen before this year! To be honest, I probably already do this anyways so why not keep track? All my blog followers will be able to see what I watch this year as well cause I’m going to add a page on to my blog where I will list each movie(that’s new to me) and give a little rating of 1 to 5 stars. Now just so I don’t get hate mail over this, please understand that the rating will be totally MY opinion and I’m definitely no film expert! What I like may NOT be what you like and vice versa. It will be all in fun!

So there’s my four goals that I’m super duper excited about and I can’t wait to see what 2013 will bring! Stay tuned! 🙂 Oh and HAPPY NEW YEARS again!

{January 14, 2012}   So hard to not post now

Why is it that now that I am done with my daily post challenge, I have a hard time with the idea of missing a day?
Here it is 11:30 at night and I have been watching the clock tick away the hours, knowing I haven’t posted anything. There’s nothing wrong with me missing a day at this point, but I find myself feeling guilty when I think of not posting today. So, what’s the deal?
Am I now so used to posting daily that it’s as much of a habit as eating and sleeping is? If I have to miss a post eventually, will I end up filled with guilt? I don’t know and I guess it’s not the worst thing to have become a habit in my life. If only this water challenge could take effect as well as my blogging challenge obviously had. Have I been doing well with drinking water? No, I haven’t. I want to automatically blame not feeling well as to why, but honestly, that would be a cop out. I have water bottles available to me. There’s no excuse for me to not grab one more often. I know my problem is simply that I am choosing to grab soda instead. Bad Sharon!
Looks like this year’s challenges are starting out harder than last years….Will I be able to suck it up and drink the darn water? And when I do, will I get to a point where drinking water is like blogging has become for me?
Only time will tell.

P.s. Anyone know where I could buy glasses in which I can view the future?

{January 12, 2012}   I made it!

It’s official! I have now completed my Postaday 2011 Challenge. I have posted daily, without missing one post, 365 days in a row!
So, what’s next?
More blogging, of course! I will not be going for a daily challenge in 2012, however I do want to continue blogging daily. I’m not going to consider it a challenge or obligation, because if I am really sick or unable to post for some reason, I don’t want to have to throw out a mediocre post to just full in space. I feel like I ended up doing this in 2011 a few times and I disliked having to do so. At the same time, posting daily was more about fighting procrastination for me, sticking to a goal, and recapturing my love for writing, so even the short posts helped me. In the end, that was all I could ask for.
This year, I want to dig deeper into my writing, challenge myself to new heights with it and hopefully uncover more of the true me through this process. I also hope to catch up on the blogs I follow and come up with a plan of how to stay up to date with your blogs and comment on a regular basis again.
I hope all my followers will stick with me on my journey and are as excited as I am to see what’s in store in 2012!
