Music from the year I was born

First of all, one of the blogs I came across not too long ago is doing 31 days of Blogging Honesty in May. I considered doing it too but I decided I didn’t want to be tied down to HAVING to answer a certain question everyday. BUT I’ve been reading what his answers are and today he did day 3 which was Favorite song from the year you were born. Since I’ve been lacking inspiration lately, this really intrigued me and I decided to take that question and turn it into a post! It just sounded really fun to look up what songs came out the year I was born and which ones I really liked. So thank you to Tom Baker for doing your 31 days of Blogging Honesty and I hope you don’t mind that I used your Day 3 as a prompt for a post!

Here’s the link to HIS day 3:

31 Days Of Blogging Honesty: Day 03 « Morning Erection.  <—Don’t let the name scare you away, the post is G rated and a lot of his posts are nothing like what you might perceive from his blog name….by which I mean the “Erection” part. He DOES have some more NSFW (Not safe for work) things on there every once in awhile but he warns you, so don’t be afraid to check out his page!

Now on to my favorite songs from the year I was born!

1983!

OK…don’t laugh…my first FAV. going down the list HAS to be “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler. I actually heard a remake before the original and fell into like with it so of course I also like the original!

My second fav. on the list…”Up where we belong” by Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes….I know, I know…totally cheesy 80’s love song but it reminds me of when I was a kid at home with my mom while she was watching the cheesy soap operas that ALWAYS used to play this song among others. And it doesn’t hurt that I used a song that came from either the 80’s or 90’s at my wedding. The song was “Baby, you’re my destiny” and it was ALSO by Joe Cocker…and some other female singer. The song lyrics are just beautiful and so is the song.

Ok…next, ssshhh, don’t tell my momma! ‘Sexual Healing” by Marvin Gaye…Need I say more?!

And lastly….”Tonight I celebrate my love for you” by Peabo Bryson & Roberta Flack….another cheesy love song from the 80’s that also was on a soap opera….Do I have a pattern going here? The 80’s had some good cheesy love songs, what can I say?!

Here’s some other honorable mentions that I also like from 1983 but I didn’t choose as a favorite.

“Every breath you take”-Police

“Billie Jean”-Michael Jackson

“Sweet Dreams(are made of this)”-Eurythmics

“Hungry like the wolf”-Duran Duran

“Mickey”-Toni Basil

“Always something there to remind me”-Naked Eyes

Did you know there were 5 Michael Jackson songs on the Billboard Hot 100 for 1983? WOW! Just thought that was an interesting fact.

What’s your favorite song or songs from the year YOU were born? I would love to hear! 🙂

  1. I didn’t think I knew that many from the year I was born but i found a few. “Sweet Child O’ Mine,” Guns ‘N’ Roses and “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are probably my faves from that year. lol I had no idea Kokomo by the Beach Boys was made the year that I was born I remember singing it everytime we went through Kokomo, Indiana on the way to visit you guys. Now it’s stuck in my head…

  2. Thanks for the promotion! Since I already revealed my answers I must say that on your list the songs that stays in my head forever after hearing it would have to be Always Something There To Remind Me by Naked Eyes. My parents always played the original version, I think it was Dionne Warwick, when I was younger but the remake is so much of an 80’s thing! I’m happy to inspire people.
